+🇵🇱 Narracja Diany głęboko rezonuje ze mną jako wyjątkowa historia solidarności i wsparcia kobiet w rodzinie. Chociaż urodzona na początku XX wieku i wychowana w ortodoksyjnej społeczności żydowskiej, matka Diany (wydana za mąż w wieku 14 lat za znacznie starszego, religijnego mężczyznę) oraz Diana żyły według własnych zasad. Matka Diany nie była religijna, nie wyszła ponownie za mąż po śmierci męża i sama utrzymywała rodzinę. Diana głównie bawiła się z chłopcami i przez całe życie była bardzo zainteresowana sportem.

+🇬🇧 Diana's narrative resonated deeply with me as a unique story of women's solidarity and support within a family. Although born at the beginning of the XX century and raised in an Orthodox Jewish community, Diana's mother (married when 14, 5 years old to a reli-gious, much older man) and Diana lived their lives on their own terms. Diana's mother was not religious, she did not remarry when her husband had died, and she supported her family by herself. Diana played mainly with boys, and she was very into sports all her life.

+Słuchając Diany, pomyślałam o mojej babci, szóstym dziecku w polskiej rodzinie chłopskiej. Podjęła bardzo śmiałe i niezależne wybory życiowe. Przeprowadziła się do Lublina, w latach 50. wyszła za rozwiedzionego Chińczyka, przeniosła się do Warszawy, prowadziła niezależną firmę obuwniczą (co było nielegalne w Polskiej Rzeczypospolitej Ludowej) i zapewniła swoim dzieciom wyższe wykształcenie. Choć nie miała wykształcenia, miała bardzo ciekawy umysł i była zapaloną czytelniczką. W wielu aspektach pozostała tradycyjna (oddanie katolicyzmowi, gotowość do służenia całej rodzinie, głosowanie na autorytarną narodową partię w swoich ostatnich dniach), ale zawsze wspierała nasze wybory, nawet jeśli się z nimi nie zgadzała.

+Listening to Diana, I thought about my grandmother, a sixth child in a peasant Polish family. She made very bold and independent life choices. She moved to Lublin, married a divorced Chinese man in the 505, moved to Warsaw, ran an independent shoemaking company (which was illegal in the People's Republic of Poland), and gave her children higher education. Although uneducated, she had a very curious mind and was a dedicated reader. She stayed traditional in many ways (devotion to Catholicism, readiness to serve the whole family, voting for an authoritarian nationalist party in her old days), but had always supported our choices, even if she didn't agree with them.

+Podzielam z Dianą również entuzjazm dla życia w Londynie. Czasami myślę, że jest tak różnorodny, że zawiera w sobie cały świat. Dlatego każdy, bez względu na swoje korzenie, może tutaj czuć się jak w domu. Nie czuję się Brytyjczykiem i nie wiem, czy kiedykolwiek będę, ale czuję się jak w domu w Isleworth, części Londynu, w której mieszkam.

+I share with Diana also an enthusiasm for living in London. I sometimes think it is so di-verse, that it contains the whole world within. Therefore, anybody, whatever their roots, might feel here at home. I do not feel British, and I do not know if I ever would, but I feel at home in Isleworth, the part of London I live in.
