I've always been amazed at how strong the bonds of friendship can be among young people. My son now has a close group of friends from the football club. They trust each other immensely, which allows them to use forbidden and politically incorrect nicknames.

I tak mój syn, który jest polskiej narodowości jest nazywany przez kolegów “Bricklayer”, Brendan to “Prisoner”, Calvin “Arbuz”, a Barish to “Kebab”. Każdy z ich paczki ma takie samo niepisane prawo zawołać swojego kolegę po przezwisku. To taki trick młodych ludzi, który paradoksalnie nie obraża ich ale umacnia zaufanie.

So my son, who is of Polish nationality, is called “Bricklayer” by his friends, Brendan is “Prisoner”, Calvin is “Watermelon”, and Barish is “Kebab”. Each of them has the same unwritten right to call their friend by their nickname. It's a trick of young people that paradoxically doesn't offend them but strengthens trust.

Krios tutaj przyznaje, że ukrywa swoje romskie pochodzenie przed najbliższymi przyjaciółmi. Mimo, iż wychowany jest w wielokulturowym środowisku, to nie zdobył się jeszcze na coming out. Czuję teraz, że zaczynam trochę lepiej rozumieć ciężar tego brzemienia.

Krios here admits that he hides his Roma origin from his closest friends. Even though he was raised in a multicultural environment, he has not yet come out. I feel now that I'm beginning to understand the weight of this burden a little better.
